We are in your community with special events, activities, and workshops fostering and encouraging increased civic and social engagement. Created in response to a growing population of sophisticated, discriminating television viewers in the desert, KCET Desert Cities is a new round-the-clock lifestyle channel created by KCET exclusively for Coachella Valley residents.

Available only on Time Warner Digital Cable, KCET Desert Cities offers a 24-hour line-up of everything from cooking to culture, golf to gardening, hobbies to health. You'll also enjoy original video segments featuring visits to favorite local restaurants, interviews, and helpful tips on home decor, tennis, and landscaping.

KCET Desert Cities is available to Time Warner Digital Cable subscribers on channel 218.

Art of Food and Wine Festival

Kris Capra, Palm Springs restaurateur and host of Capra's Kitchen, attends 2007's 2nd Annual Art of Food and Wine Festival in Palm Desert, CA. Kris reports on her findings and what has been learned from the festival's many seminars, ranging from wine and champagne to olive oil.

Kris attends a cheese seminar with Max McCallum. He asserts that cheese is by far the safest frequently-consumed food, as it has three properties that make it so healthful: it contains salt (a natural preservative), is acidic, and is produced with the highest quality milk.

Thomas Curry, a leading expert on olive oil, discusses its many benefits and uses in everyday life. It's a natural anti-oxidant and contains no saturated fat. Olive oil has been proven to help prevent cancer and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It can also be used to make soaps and butter, and in baking and frying your favorite foods.

In celebration of KCET's new nationally-distributed science prgram, Wired Science, Bob Greenbaum generously hosted a cocktail reception at his home in Rancho Mirage. Mr. Greenbaum's home is enviornmentally friendly and includes 'green' design principles. About 50 guests participated in a conversation about the program.
